The Back 2 School Battle annually serves as a fundraiser for the Yates Basketball program.  On Sunday August 13, 2017, Boost Mobile was on site with some giveaways.  Celebrity DJs (Mr. Rogers - 93.7 The Beat vs Kiotti - 97.9 The Box) kept the fans hyped throughout the day.   
Swoop Swoop (aka Eisenhower HS varsity) became the first ever team comprised solely of players from the same high school to win 1st place in the Back 2 School Battle.  The team of 9 players won all 6 of their games on the weekend including bracket victories over KDC International, TJ Ford Elite, Hoop Nation and Houston Raptors Elite in the championship.  Jesse Zarzuela led the Raptors with 12p (4 treys) while Marlon Jackson contibuted 9pts.  Swoop Swoop trailed by 16pts in the first half before walking that lead all the way down.  Ironically, they trailed by double digits in the semis and quarter finals as well.  Twins Ja'Mare and Ja'Mere Redus were the key producers on this squad, but a few teammates supplied impressive performances.  For example, Korey McQueen, Matthew Barber, Patrick Punch will pose problems this season for many opponents.  I can hardly wait to see this team September 30 - October 1st at the Super 16 Extravaganza which will be held at DeKaney HS.
